HOPE study completes recruitment: 289 participants included

The Huddinge Online Prolonged Exposure (HOPE) study has reached an important milestone: we have now included all of our participants! The study, led by researcher Maria Bragesjö, has followed people with PTSD through ten weeks of therapist-supported internet-based treatment.

The first treatments began in September 2023, and the last were completed in July 2026. In total, 289 people with PTSD took part in the study. Participants were randomized to either Prolonged Exposure (PE) or an active control treatment, Applied Relaxation, and both were delivered online with support from a therapist.

A big thank you to everyone who made this possible: the participants who dedicated their time and effort to the treatment, and the clinicians and research team who supported them along the way. Running a study of this size over almost three years is a true team effort.

We are now beginning the exciting work of analyzing the results from the 1-month follow-up. We look forward to learning more about what these findings can contribute to our understanding of internet-based treatment for PTSD, and we will share more as the analyses progress.
