Treatment for hoarding in San Francisco

We at Rück Lab are in the planning stages of a treatment study on Hoarding Disorder, the first in Sweden. In preparation for this, we are meeting up with professionals in California with experience helping people with hoarding. David Bain works at the Mental Health Association of San Francisco and is also a part of a large clinical trial on group treatment for Hoarding Disorder. Dave was generous enough to share his vast experience of hoarding treatment and how it can be delivered effectively. Thank you for being so welcoming and sharing with us Dave!

Rück Lab in California

Volen is in California this week, meeting with professionals involved in hoarding task forces and treatment of Hoarding Disorder in and around San Francisco. Below are two members of the relatively new task force in Santa Clara, Dana Girard and Mallory von Kugelgen. A fruitful discussion which led to new ideas about what a Swedish task force could focus on.

It is obvious that there is a lot to be done for people with Hoarding Disorder in Sweden, and that collaboration across organizations is key, More updates from the trip to come.

New publication in JAMA Psychiatry: d-Cycloserine as Adjunct to CBT in OCD

Our study of d-cycloserine in OCD is out now in JAMA Psychiatry (click for link). This randomized clinical trial examines whether d-cycloserine augments cognitive behavioral therapy in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and whether concomitant use of antidepressants moderates the effects of d-cycloserine.

Group retreat at Hesselby Slott

We just finished a retreat for our group. We were honored that Jim Crowley and Christopher Lalima, Hofstra University had flown in for the meeting.

Man of the day: Gustaf Brander

Gustaf Brander is the latest PhD student to join the battle agianst OCD, or in this particular case, to identify risk factors for OCD. He is a psychologist by training and Prof David Mataix-Cols is his main supervisor and Eva Serlachius and Christian Rück co-supervisors.

Jim Crowley affiliated to our group

Assistant Professor James J. Crowley is now affilated to Karolinska Institutet and our group. Jim is currently at the Department of Genetics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Check out some his recent publications here. We are very proud to have him at KI.
